3 Easy Steps to Sell online courses from your own website

Are you looking at the booming online course industry and wondering how you can be part of it? Maybe you've thought about creating a course, but you're not sure how to sell online courses from your own website, and that's kept you from making your dreams happen. Well, my friend, let's chat about this real quick because there's a huge opportunity for you, and selling your online courses shouldn't be a big worry. If you create a course that people want, one that will help them succeed in their business or personal lives, they will want to buy it.

So, let's jump in. How do you sell online courses from your own website? In this example, we're going to focus on using SEO to sell those online courses since that's what I teach.

Step 1. You'll need to brainstorm keywords that your potential students would use when searching for a course related to yours. For example, if you're teaching a class on decorating beautiful cookies, then you might want to brainstorm terms such as

  • Cookie decorating class
  • Online cookie decorating class
  • How to make beautiful cookies
  • Can I learn how to make professional-looking cookies?

Think about all of the questions people ask you regularly. Some of your keyword ideas will be tied to those questions.

Step 2. You need to use an SEO keyword research tool, such as the Google Keyword Tool, to check the search volume for the keywords you've brainstormed so you can choose one to use for your online course.

You can check the keyword's competitiveness by going to Google and seeing who's currently ranking on page 1 for the term you're considering. How similar are they to your course? If they're very similar or direct competitors, you're on the right track. If they're much bigger than you or brands you recognize because they're corporate, professional, at the mall, etc., then you need to start over because the term is too competitive for you to rank. I teach a more in-depth way of doing this in my Simple SEO class. When you're ready to focus on SEO as a marketing channel, be sure to check out that class. It's designed to fast-track you to SEO success.

Step 3. Now that you've chosen your keyword, it's time to get to work. You need to create SEO-friendly copy, optimize it, and write your SEO elements – your Title Tag and Meta Description. For more details on these items, check out the linked blog posts.
