It can be hard to know when to do SEO on your website or blog. It’s a common question. The answer may surprise you. It’s always a good time to do SEO.

When you’re building your first website

If you’re starting to build your first website (or a new website), it’s a great time to focus on SEO for your website because you can build it with search in mind, which helps. When you create a website with SEO in mind, you can use your targeted keywords in your navigation and URL names easier than if you’re trying to change something after the fact. You can also make sure your content contains SEO keywords and addresses your customers’ questions.

When you think you’d made mistakes with your current SEO

You can add SEO to a website at any point in time. If you’ve started one and as you learn more about SEO, you realize you’ve made some mistakes, you may be worried that it’s too late, but it’s not. You can make updates and changes to your SEO at any time. If you chose the wrong keywords, you can go through the research process and choose new ones and get to work. If you didn’t optimize your website at all, you could do it now. If you had someone build your website, and now you realize they did the SEO part wrong… it’s OK. You can fix it and make things work better.

When you realize you didn’t do anything for SEO

This happens too. Maybe you were so focused on building the website that you didn’t have time to learn SEO, so you have a website, but it’s not optimized. You can add SEO to your website now, and it will work (as long as you learn how to do it the right way).

The good news is that it’s always a good time to add SEO to your website as long as you do it the right way. Make sure you learn how to do it so that your efforts are rewarded with more traffic, better-qualified leads, and you make more money. I mean, if you’re going to put effort into doing this, you want to make sure you see the results.

Why start now? SEO takes time to work

When you start an SEO program, you don’t see the results as fast as you will with other marketing channels. I know, it’s frustrating but it’s a super-powerful long-game I’ve heard people say that it’s best to think of it as a retirement account. You put a little bit into your SEO account every month. It starts off very slowly but then, boom, things start to grow and compound on top of each other. It just takes a bit more time than some other marketing channels. It can take 12-24 months to see big changes. You’ll see smaller changes quicker than that but know that it could take 1-2 years to see big results. The quicker you start, the sooner you’ll see the results.
