How to Make Money from Your Podcast
Simple SEO Podcast, Podcasting
You’re not podcasting for fun. You’re podcasting to grow your business. It’s OK to admit that. If you want to make money from your podcast, then you need to take a strategic approach to your show.
Whether you’re a course creator, a life coach, a realtor, an insurance agent, a travel agent, an ecommerce seller, or are in a different niche, your podcast can be your best sales tool for your business if you know how.
But if your podcast isn’t bringing in leads, it can feel frustrating to keep creating new content. You may wonder if you need to release even more episodes, but also, that might feel pointless since people aren’t finding the episodes you’re releasing today.
You need to do a Few Things in Order to Make Money from your Podcast.
First, you need to make sure your show is searchable.
You also need to make sure you’re producing the right episodes to be able to generate leads, nurture your listeners, and make money.
It’s not one or the other, it’s both – your content and your optimization that work together to grow your business.
Podcast Visibility is the Key to Making Money with Your Podcast
When we have higher ticket products or services, people don’t often buy instantaneously. We generally see that people spend a bit of time researching, checking reviews, reading about your offer, asking questions, and often listening to your podcast to see if they like you and your content or style.
Your podcast can help nurture your audience and turn listeners into buyers if it’s designed that way. If you create content that answers the questions your buyers have when they’re in the research mode, you’re providing value for them and nurturing them at the same time. It helps you build trust with your audience and warm them up for you.
When people listen to your podcast regularly, they start to feel more comfortable with you and are more likely to at least consider your business when they go to make a purchasing decision. It’s not a guarantee that they’ll work with you, but it definitely helps.
How to Create Podcast Content that Makes Money for Your Business
Now that you understand how it all works, let’s talk about how to do this for your business. You want to create content that your ideal customer is interested in, but you also want to make sure it ties back to your business, so you can generate leads that are interested in what you sell.
I generally recommend that you choose 4 topic areas that are going to be interesting to your customers / listeners but also tie to your business. For example, I blog and podcast about the following topics:
Google SEO
AI SEO
Podcasting
Marketing Metrics / Strategy
Each of these topic areas ties back to a product or service within my business.
Simple SEO Content (6-month Google & AI SEO group program)
Marketing Consulting (and a future group program)
See how you work that out? I want you to think about your business. What are your revenue channels? Now, how can you create content that helps your ideal customer/listener but also ties back to your revenue channels within your business?
Then, you want to create one episode each month for each of your four topic areas and offer your opt-in naturally in those episodes. I have a blog post that will help you understand how to write podcast episode titles that get clicks. You can read it here.
If you talk about a subject that your opt-in helps with, offer it in the episode. If you have a program or service that would help them and you’re talking about a subject that’s related, it’s OK to mention that product or service.
Don’t make your entire podcast episode one giant sales pitch, but weave it in there naturally, and you’ll be OK. You want to make sure you always focus on your ideal customer and provide value to them.
Optimize your Podcast Episodes So They Get Found
Finally, you need to do SEO on your episodes so that it’s easier for new listeners to find them. You want to make sure you’re including SEO keywords in your episode title so it’s easy for the algorithm to understand what your show is about, and it’s easy for your ideal listener to determine if they want to listen to your show.
Use your keyword in your episode title and your show description. Doing this will help the podcast app and your listeners understand what the show is about. Then you can also create a podcast show notes page blog post that includes a Google SEO keyword, and go ahead and optimize that post for AI search too. If you’re not sure what to do for Google or AI, I have beginner’s guides to both on my website. You can find them here.
